With the ever-increasing popularity of AI platforms such as ChatGPT, there has been much discussion about how search engine optimisation (SEO) will be affected. As the process of driving a traffic to a website using organic search results, SEO is likely to be affected in a number of different ways – but that does not mean it will disappear. In our latest blog, we look at how the adoption of AI technology by search engines and copywriters may impact upon the future of SEO practises.
SEO is Always Evolving
As far back as two decades ago, people have been predicting the end of SEO. But despite the dramatic changes that have occurred on the web since the 90s, SEO still remains to be one of the most important components of a successful digital marketing strategy. Instead of dying out, the practice simply evolves with technology. Although AI large language models such as ChatGPT are currently gaining traction, AI is not actually all that new within SEO. Google has been using machine learning and AI for many years (prior to the company’s recent introduction of AI search tech), in order to improve the process of matching searcher intent to website content.
How Can AI Be Used for SEO?
With the constant evolving nature of AI technology, there is predicted to be a sharp increase in the amount of content generated using chat bots across the next few years. But although AI is able to accurately create page titles and meta descriptions more quickly and efficiently, this type of content will still need to be reviewed by a human. Additionally, relying solely on AI for website content will not work for search engine optimisation - high quality and informative content written by a specialist will always win over generic, lower quality AI-written content.
Despite this, there are many aspects of AI technology that can be embraced within SEO practises, which will only improve over time – including keyword research, HTML writing, and content optimisation.
